Caddie Program
Crystal Tree Golf and Country Club is a proud supporter of the Evans Scholarship Foundation. To date, 23 of the Crystal Tree Caddies have been awarded scholarships. Each year more than 800 caddies attend college on tuition and housing grants from the Evans Scholars Foundation. To qualify, a caddie must be nominated by their club and meet four requirements: rank among the top 25 percent of his high school class, have a superior caddie record for two or more years, show financial need and have outstanding personal character. The Evans Scholarship recipient must then keep a strong academic record, perform community service, respect their fellow Scholars and faithfully perform assigned housework. Nearly one-half of all Scholars maintain a “B” average or better; the graduate rate is 90 percent, compared to a 50 percent national average.
The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship program was established by and named for Charles "Chick" Evans, Jr., who won 54 tournaments over a competitive career that spanned four decades. He received worldwide fame in 1916 when he won both the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Open. When he decided to retain his amateur status, he used his golf earnings to establish the Charles Evans Jr. Trust in 1928 to assist golf caddies. The Western Golf Association became the program's sponsor in 1930. A subsequent trust agreement, signed in 1935, stipulated that net income and principal would be used to provide scholarships and other educational opportunities for caddies at institutions designated by the Scholarship Committee of the Western Golf Association. Today The Evans Scholars Foundation administers the largest privately funded college scholarship program in the nation. Since 1930, when the first two Scholars enrolled at Northwestern University, more than 10,000 young men and women have participated in the program.
Thank you for trying out for our caddie program! With our limited exposure to the boys and girls who came out to train the last couple of weeks, it was very difficult to let anyone go. We were only able to take about 1/3 of the recruits who signed up, so don't be discouraged if you were not chosen - there's always next year!
